The Dublin Skylon Hotel's exterior, with lights accentuating its modern design.

When it comes to finding the perfect hotel in Dublin, location, comfort, and service are key. For our brief stay in the city, we chose the 4-star Dublin Skylon Hotel—and spoiler alert: it was a fantastic choice. Here’s why this North Dublin gem stood out to us.

We booked the Dublin Skylon Hotel because it was voted Ireland’s City Hotel of the Year in 2023, and it’s easy to see why. Situated just 15 minutes from the airport and 15 minutes from Dublin’s city center, it offered the perfect balance of convenience and comfort for our quick visit. We wanted to be close enough to the city to visit sites we’d yet to explore and close to the airport for our flight out the day following our arrival. I just checked their website, and they won Ireland’s City Hotel of the Year again in 2024!

First Impressions

There was ample parking in the hotel’s lot when we pulled in for our stay. The friendly and efficient staff made the check-in process seamless.

Our Cozy Well-Appointed King Room

A King Room at Dublin Skylon Hotel

Dublin is a bustling city, so we expected a smaller room—but we were pleasantly surprised by how cozy yet functional our King Room was. Here are some highlights:

  • A comfy bed and ample bed. It passed what I call the cartwheel test, and Chris calls the arms and legs akimbo test. Even better, it was comfortable. We had a lovely night of rest.
  • A work desk which was perfect for getting some quick work done.
  • A small fridge, it was empty but handy for storing drinks and snacks.
  • Canned still water—a small but unique touch we hadn’t seen before.

The Little Luxuries

Rituals Soap and Lotion in the bathroom at Dublin Skylon Hotel.

Hotels win extra points for good toiletries, and Melissa was thrilled to find Rituals products in the bathroom. Those small details make a stay feel more special.

Chris's Favorite Part: The Snacks

If you know Chris, you know he’s a snack enthusiast. He declared the hotel a winner when he found a complimentary bag of Keogh Shamrock and Sour Cream crisps (aka Ireland’s best chips). It’s always the little things!

Would we stay at Dublin Skylon Hotel Again?

Absolutely!

The Skylon Hotel was the perfect base for our Dublin adventure. If you’re looking for an affordable, stylish, and well-located hotel, this is a fantastic choice. Whether you’re in town for a short layover or a longer city stay, Skylon provides comfort, great service, and a true Irish welcome.
