Hotel Review: The Trident Hotel in Kinsale, Ireland

A nautical-themed hotel room with floor-to -ceiling windows and a view of Kinsale Harbour.
A Harbour-View Room at The Trident Hotel.

After a day spent learning the distinction between water-resistant and waterproof gear on our hike of Skellig Michael, Chris and I drove three hours to charming Kinsale, Ireland. The ease of pulling into the luxurious four-star Trident Hotel Kinsale’s ample parking lot at World’s End was a relief to our happy but tired and still damp travel hearts. Doesn’t it feel like you’re getting away with something when you can pull into a lot and park your vehicle at no additional fee and without any complications? Continuing on with hospitality that made us feel at ease, we were greeted with great warmth and efficiency when we walked through the doors of The Trident Hotel. I must say we looked like a couple that needed to get to their room and freshen up.

A woman with a mop of wild curls wearing a gray shawl wrapped over her shoulders.
This is what I looked like after taking my more soaked layers off after our Skellig Michael hike and finding some dry items in our luggage. When we arrived, a three-hour drive later, I'm confident that my hair was worse, but I have no pictures to prove it with -- if you have natural curls though, you know how it goes.

Our Harbour-View Room

The Trident Hotel offers six types of rooms (Classic Room with a View, Harbour-View, Junior Suite with Harbour-View, Waterfront Signature Suite, Harbour Suite with Private Balcony, and Luxury Sovereign Suite with Private Balcony). Our Harbour-View room was one step up from the Classic Room with a View. We chose Harbour-View for two items it has that the Classic Room does not: air conditioning and a bath separate from the shower.

Travel Tip: When booking hotels anywhere in Europe, never assume that rooms come with air conditioning. Ireland has a reputation for being on the cooler side, but their summers are getting hotter. You might want that AC.

Our room’s nautical decor and floor-to-ceiling windows with a view of the harbor were delightful. Its King Bed is quite comfortable. The bath was massive, and my cold bones were ever grateful for it. Coffee, tea, and bottled water, the necessities, are provided.

While its World’s End address might sound ominous, there’s no need to worry – it’s only called that because before the Americas were discovered, people thought this was where the world ended. Plenty of shopping and dining options are within a short walk of the hotel. If you’re an avid sailor or want to try sailing, options are right outside the hotel’s doors.

Hotel Drinks and Dining

Vegan Caesar Salad at the Wharf Tavern in Kinsale.

Breakfast is served in the Pier One Restaurant each morning. Arrive early to get a table close to the windows. The views are lovely. Service is friendly, and a variety of delicious breakfast options, including allergy-friendly ones, are available.

The Wharf Tavern and Terrace is a great option for lunch or dinner. Thanks to the work of local yacht designer Rob Jacob, you’ll feel like you’re boarding a yacht when you enter. The nautical feel and harbor views make this a relaxing place to dine and drink with friends. Their lunch and dinner menus are upscale pub food with some delightful surprises. For basic yet scrumptious pub fare, you can order a burger (chicken, beef, or vegan), a steak sandwich, or fish and chips. Try their seafood bake, chickpea masala, or ribeye steak if you want something fancier.

Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options are available on their menu.

Other Amenities

We did not visit the Health and Fitness Club, which includes a 15-meter deck-level pool and a jacuzzi. We only had energy for shopping, strolling, eating, and drinking. Perhaps we’ll get a chance on our next visit.

The Trident Hotel Price

€541 for two nights in a Harbour View Room with the Bed and Breakfast Package included. That price was during the high season! We stayed July 26th – 28th, 2023.

Would We Stay Again?

An emphatic yes! And I do hope that we do. We adore Kinsale, and the Trident Hotel made us feel at home. If you’re not sure what to do with a couple of days in Kinsale, be sure to check out our post — Kinsale, Ireland: Your Romantic Weekend Planned
