Hotel Review: Wylie Hotel Atlanta

Sultry and sophisticated, the Wylie Hotel Atlanta invites you to slow down and sit a spell. The four-star hotel is part of the Tapestry Collection by Hilton. Built in 1929 as the Garner-Wallace Hotel, the Wylie Hotel Atlanta opened in May 2021 as a boutique hotel in the Old Fourth Ward District. It’s also known as the historic 551 Ponce building and, more importantly to its guests, as The Friendly Hotel.

First Impressions & Check-In Experience

When we pulled up in our rented car, past the hydrangeas, a valet greeted us and assisted us with our luggage. Once through the hotel doors, our eyes were greeted by its lush interior and playful, creative touches. The front desk staff made it easy for us to switch gears from our busy day of adventure in Atlanta into relaxation mode with their prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable service.

Guest Room Review

There are 111 rooms at Wylie Hotel Atlanta, which might contribute to its quiet, refined feel. When I looked at single-bed Guest Rooms, the cost was the same per night whether the bed was a King or a Queen. For a bit more, you can get a King Deluxe or a King with Balcony. If you feel like splurging, they have a 1 King 1 Bedroom suite you can reserve. We saved money by booking their entry-level room. The quality furnishings and artful design gave what could’ve been a basic room a luxurious, elevated feel. The Lockwood New York Rosemary Geranium bathroom amenities and extensive mini-bar options did the same.

I had one minor disappointment with our room. When I looked on the website, it said (and today, as I write this, it says) that the King Guest Room has a bathtub. Ours did not. The shower was very nice. Unless it’s an exceptional bathtub, we usually don’t use them anyway, but I wouldn’t want to hide a discrepancy I noticed.

Dining and Drinks at Mrs. P's Bar & Kitchen

Mrs. P’s Bar & Kitchen is an absolute delight. We ate breakfast there and returned in the evening for after-dinner drinks. Both of our visits were fabulous. The service was so kind, the atmosphere divine, and the food and drinks – delicious. It’s full of Southern Charm and then some.

Location: Exploring Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward

Wylie Hotel Atlanta is just a minute’s walk from Ponce City Market – a fabulous food hall with local and national retail shops to explore. Speaking of food, Ruby Chow’s is just around the corner. If you like Asian Fusion, make reservations – their food, drink, and service are all top-notch. Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park and Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum are less than a five-minute drive away. Centennial Olympic Park, Georgia Aquarium, Atlanta Botanical Garden, and Center for Puppetry Arts are all within a 10-minute drive.

Pricing, Parking & Value

When we stayed, as Hilton Honors Members, in early August, our room averaged $205 per night ($188.01 on the first, $221.99 on the second) plus local fees and taxes. The only parking option is valet, which is $45 per night plus tip. It might seem like a high price to pay, but in a busy city, it was nice to have the car whisked away, parked, and then returned when we needed it.

Would We Stay at Wylie Hotel Atlanta Again?

Yes. The place is beautiful, the service attentive, and the nights quiet. I loved our room, Mrs. P’s, and the location.
