Why did we make a boggling video about Boggle, Sport announcing, and aliens?
You read that right, Boggle, sport announcing, and aliens. My wife wants the answer to this too. It doesn’t make sense. I know. I’ll do my best to explain.
Imagine this:
You finally get the guts to team up with your wife to launch a YouTube channel. It’s going to be about leisure! Traveling around, checking out amazing places, and the tasty food and drinks that go with them. Then, a world-wide pandemic hits and you can’t leave the house.
What to do?
Well, many might dive into a Netflix binge. A few might even take up gardening or finish that lingering home improvement project. Others may start downing Gin & Tonics, Smoky Tajin Margaritas, French 75s, or Hemingway Daiquiris. Cheers!
What do I do?
For me, my mind starts racing. Fueled by coffee and its creative kick in the pants, I get all kinds of crazy ideas. My poor lovely wife does her best to adapt to them. Melissa was a great sport and went along with my “vision.”
Before I deep dive into the details of what I decided to do, remember this:
We set out to create a travel channel that left the door open to leisurely fun. When we started our channel, a month before the pandemic, we marketed ourselves as:
A husband & wife team crusading against bad meals, drinks made from cheap mixes, and boring times. You can find us meandering around the Midwest doing this very important leisure testing because someone has to do it.
Back to our boggling Boggle experience:
After a night of playing the mind-bending game of Boggle, my coffee-fueled mind concocted a video about Boggle becoming possessed by an alien. Within days the “We Played Boggle and Something Went Horribly Wrong” episode was in the can.
Diving into doing sketch comedy was fun. I’ve always been a fan of it. I enjoyed creating it and the experience taught me a few lessons:
- Doing sketch comedy is harder than it looks.
- I need to use some discernment about what content we create for our channel.
- I need to ease up on the caffeine. Boggle becomes possessed by aliens? That makes no sense without a coffee high encouraging it.
